The Cedar Key Volunteer Fire Department has taken on a project to provide CPR & AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training for the citizens of Cedar Key. We would like to educate as many Cedar Key citizens with these life saving techniques as possible. These classes will be taught through the American Heart Association in Cedar Key by fire department personnel. This project is not to raise money, but to educate. There will be a minimum charge for each class. The charge will cover the cost of the CPR cards and supplies.
WHY TAKE ACTION?
Failure to act in a cardiac emergency can lead to unnecessary deaths.Effective bystander CPR provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim's chances of survival, but only 32 percent of cardiac arrest victims get CPR from a bystander. Sadly, less than eight percent of people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital survive. The American Heart Association trains more than 12 million people in CPR annually, to provide Americans with the skills they need to perform bystander CPR.
FAMILY & FRIENDS program are intended for members of the general public who would like to learn basic CPR, including the following.
- families with children or elderly relatives
- college-dorm resident assistants
- athletes or wilderness explorers
- members of volunteer organizations
- residents of rural areas or locations prone to natural disasters
WHO CAN YOU SAVE WITH CPR?
The life you save with CPR training is most likely to be a loved one or someone you know. Four out of five cardiac arrests happen at home. Statistically speaking, if called on to administer CPR in an emergency, the life you save is likely to be someone at home; a child, a spouse, parent or friend
These FAMILY & FRIENDS programs are NONCREDENTIALED - A participation card will be awarded upon completion
Anyone required by his/her employer or anyone wishing to be CREDENTIALED as lay responder should take a Heartsaver course. These classes are being offered as ADULT ONLY, ADULT & CHILD ONLY, CHILD & INFANT. Cards will be issued by the American Heart Association.
