WHAT’S THAT SOUND??? THREE MINUTE SIREN BLAST!!! Cedar Key is in the process of installing three outdoor community warning sirens. The same type installed all over the country for warning of incoming tornados and other emergencies. ** These sirens & controls were donated to the City by Progress Energy thru Levy County Emergency Management. The poles and sirens will be set at no charge to the City by Central Florida Electric Coop. Why use outdoor warning sirens? Sirens are still the most effective method to warn the population at large in the shortest amount of time. People who may be outdoors at ball games, in their yard, or anywhere else where they are not in contact with the normal news media channels such as radio, TV or local public address systems. What to do in CEDAR KEY!! In the event you hear a THREE minute blast from the local sirens, be aware of the following: **** We will only use these for a MANDATORY EVACUATION at this time. **** An announcement will be made on the downtown system. **** You can call the Cedar Key Fire Station @ 543-5192 there will be a recorded message.
